"Urban Star" caps off successful season by crowning winner Many critics felt that "Urban Star" was in huge trouble earlier this summer after the series' faulty freshman season and behind the scenes drama resulted in a complete shake-up of the judging panel and hosts, but they were proven wrong. The second season of "Urban Star" ranked as BET's No. 1 series this summer, averaging over 5 million viewers weekly and achieving considerable growth over its troubled first season. The talent was on fire this season, capping in a finale with the incredibly talented Dameslle, Raykeea and Robin Varner. In an insanely close vote between the finalists, resulting in a less than 1% difference between the three, Damselle was crowned the winner. Damselle has been rewarded a recording contract and her debut single "Limbo" has been serviced to Urban radio formats. Runner-up Robin Varner and Raykeea are also expected to release their debut singles under freshly signed contracts with other labels. Another positive note this season was the incredible chemistry between the new judging panel. Sole returning judge Sheki was joined by R&B superstar Billie Jones and rapper Yonas. The three bounced off each other perfectly and had a great time on the panel together. "Urban Star" has been renewed for a third season and will return in 2014.
