Life has been busy for Caleedra Summers since her 2011 debut, Terra Firma, which spawned two Top 20 country hits. Despite being absent from the charts for most of 2012, the singer doesn't really look at it as a break. "Around the time my second single was released, I found out that I was expecting my first child. I realized I had to make a decision, and shortly after that, with the permission of my label, I took a step back from my music career to focus on being a mom. It was a great choice and I feel better because of it."
Summers, who made history being the first African American female to grace the country charts, said that even though she was playing the role of mother, she still fit in time to work on music, which has always been her No. 1 passion. "Between changing diapers and running errands I'd have to squeeze in songwriting sessions and made a lot of phone calls to my record label. It was a busy time for me, but I have never felt more proud of myself for doing it." Between the bulk of 2012 and the first half of 2013, Summers has revealed that her long-awaited sophomore album is finally finished. "I've never been so inspired as I have been writing this album and it shows. I'm really ecstatic about it and I am itching to get back out there again!"
The lead-off single from the forthcoming record has been selected. The single, a mid-tempo ballad titled "I Was Never Meant to Wear White," has been described as a "deep, emotionally-relatable song" in press releases. Summers says the song draws its inspiration from "the fears in women that maybe they're never going to get married or that maybe if they do, it won't work out. It's something a lot of us think about as we see our friends getting hitched and you just think, 'Is that ever going to be me?'"
No official release date has been set for the new single, yet.
